05/14/19 | Men's Golf
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Edwin Yi will head into the final round of the NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional tied for the individual lead after shooting a 5-under 67 in Tuesday's second round at TPC Myrtle Beach. Oregon shot even par as a team and is tied for sixth at 1 over for the tournament, three shots out of the top five. The top five teams in the regional will advance to the NCAA Championships.
How it Happened: Yi opened his day with a bogey at the par-4 first hole, but played brilliantly the rest of the way. He came right back with a birdie at the par-5 second and made seven straight pars to make the turn at even. The senior caught fire on the homeward half, starting the back nine with three straight birdies to get to 6 under overall. He birdied the par-5 14th and the par-4 16th down the stretch to shoot 5 under coming in.
Ryan Gronlund shot an even-par 72 to remain at 3 over for the tournament and tied for 34th. He got off to a strong start, making birdies at holes two, three and six along with a bogey at the par-3 fifth to go out in 2-under 34. A pair of bogeys to start the back nine dropped him back to even on the day before he made two birdies and two bogeys in his final five holes.
Freshman Craig Ronne turned in a steady round of 1-over 73 to sit in a tie for 41st at 4 over. After a wild back nine yesterday, Ronne made birdies at the par-5 sixth and par-4 12th while making three bogeys on the day.
Yin Ho Yue shot a 4-over 76 and is tied for 26th at 2 over. Kevin Geniza replaced Donald Kay in the lineup for round two and also turned in a 4-over 76.
