ATLANTA - After being taken in the second round of the WNBA draft by Atlanta, rookie Maite Cazorla has earned a spot on the opening day roster for the Dream.
Cazorla survived a series of training camp cuts to make the final 12-player roster. Cazorla and the Dream open the 2019 WNBA season on May 24 against Dallas.
Cazorla played in and started a UO record 146 games in her four-year collegiate career. She averaged 10.1 points and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 45.7 percent from the floor and 38.9 percent from three.
Her dagger three-pointer with 35 seconds left to play against Mississippi State in the Elite Eight helped the Ducks reach the Final Four for the first time in program history this season. Cazorla and the Ducks made long postseason runs in each of her four years. First, as a freshman, Cazorla helped head coach Kelly Graves and the Ducks reach the final four of the WNIT. The following year, the Ducks shocked the nation with an underdog run as a No. 10 seed to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. Oregon went back to the Elite Eight in Cazorla's junior season before breaking through to the Final Four in 2019.
Cazorla's talent was evident from the very start of her career, as her nine points, nine assists and four steals helped the Ducks top No. 22 ranked North Carolina on the road in her collegiate debut. Cazorla scored a career-high 26 points twice in her career and also had a career-best 12 assists twice. She played all 45 minutes in UO's overtime win over No. 25 ranked UCLA in the semifinals of the 2019 Pac-12 Tournament.
She joins two other former Pac-12 stars on the Dream roster in UCLA's Monique Billings and Oregon State's Marie Gulich.
Former Oregon forward Jillian Alleyne was in camp with the Minnesota Lynx but was one of the team's final cuts. Alleyne played overseas in Isreal over the winter, averaging 18 points and 15 rebounds per game for Rishon Le-Zion.
