Laurent Caps Career with All-America Honors

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon senior Thomas Laurent has earned the first All-America honor of his career as announced Thursday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Laurent becomes the third All-American in program history and first since Sven Swinnen who earned back-to-back honors in 2004 and 2005. Guillermo Carter became Oregon's first All-America selection during the 2000 season.
In addition to the All-America release, the ITA recently announced its final rankings of the year which had Laurent as the No. 13 player in the country. The Ducks were also represented by the doubles team of Joshua Charlton and Ty Gentry, the No. 83 duo in the NCAA.
With his All-America status, Laurent adds to his season résumé that also includes ITA Northwest Region Senior Player of the Year and All-Pac-12 First Team honors. The Montpellier, France, native received the third NCAA at-large bid of his career but was forced to withdraw due to injury. He earned a 9-16 seed in the bracket.
Laurent finishes his Oregon career with a 96-24 record in singles play. On March 7, he became the UO all-time leader in singles wins with a straight-set victory over Stijn Slump of Middle Tennessee. During the season, Laurent was ranked as high as No. 3 in the ITA national poll.
During the fall tournament season, Laurent posted a 7-2 record that featured a semifinal run at the ITA National Championships in Surprise, Ariz. In October, he teamed with Charlton to win his second-career ITA Northwest Region doubles title. Laurent tallied 76 doubles wins during his career, the fourth most in program history.
Charlton and Gentry posted a 13-6 record during their first season playing together including 10 wins during the dual season. In the Ducks' home finale, Charlton and Gentry upset the No. 32 team in the country with a 6-2 win over Jacob Brumm and Yuta Kikuchi of California. The Oregon tandem also had a ranked win at the No. 1 spot at Arizona.
