EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Ryan Gronlund was named one of Oregon's two recipients of the Tom Hansen Medal by the Pac-12 Conference Tuesday. Shannon Williams of the women's lacrosse team is the other winner of the award.
Â
Gronlund earned the recognition as the university's outstanding senior male student-athlete based on achievements both on and off the course. He was a part of one of the best stretches in program history during his four years at Oregon and received the Emerald Award at last month's O Show for outstanding achievement in service, scholarship and athletics.
Â
The three-year starter finished his career with 13 top-10 finishes and a 71.94 scoring average while receiving All-Pac-12 honors twice. He also received Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention recognition as both a junior and senior.
Â
Gronlund picked up his first career victory with a thrilling win at the 2019 Duck Invitational. He birdied the final hole to claim medalist honors by one shot at 5 under, highlighted by a final round 3-under 69. Gronlund ended the year with five top-10 finishes, including three in a row in February and March.
Â
The Pleasanton, Calif. native was named PING All-West Region as a junior after helping lead Oregon to the NCAA Championships with five top-10 finishes and a 6-under 66 in the final round of regionals. Gronlund earned PING Honorable Mention All-America recognition in 2017 for being a key part of the Ducks' NCAA runner-up team. He was also a redshirt on the 2016 team that won the NCAA title after transferring from SMU.
