Twins select Steer in the third round of the MLB Draft

Eugene, Ore. – The Minnesota Twins selected Oregon third baseman Spencer Steer in the third round of the 2019 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday.
Steer was the 90th overall pick, the highest selection of a position player in the modern era of Oregon baseball. He was picked 10 spots higher than Ryon Healy, who went 100th overall to the Oakland A's in the 2013 draft.
Steer is also the fifth-highest draft pick in the modern era, behind first-round picks Tyler Anderson (2011) and David Peterson (2017), and second-round selections Ryne Nelson (2019) and Madison Boer (2011).
Steer is the fourth Ducks player drafted by the Twins. He joins Boer (2nd round, 2011), Jake Reed (5th round, 2014) and Alex Keudell (38th round, 2011) as Minnesota selections.

- In three seasons at Oregon, hit .297 with 12 home runs, 129 RBI, 36 doubles, five triples and 163 runs scored with a .401 on base percentage and a .435 slugging percentage.
- Ranked in top 10 in Pac-12 Conference in five categories in overall games, including fifth in RBI, seventh in hits and ninth in both batting average and on-base percentage.
- Ranked in the top 10 in Pac-12 Conference only games in six categories, including first in doubles, second in RBI, fifth in hits, sixth in OBP and seventh in batting average.
- Named NCBWA National Hitter of the Week, Pac-12 Player of the Week and one of Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week following Washington State series.
- Honorable mention All-Pac-12 Conference pick in 2018 as a junior.
- Two-time honorable mention Pac-12 All-Academic Team selection.
- Named a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American following the 2017 season.
- Also selected in the 29th round (872 overall) of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians.
