02/01/20 | Men's Basketball
STANFORD, Calif. – No. 11 Oregon went cold from the field in the second half and fell to Stanford 70-60 Saturday at Maples Pavilion.
Will Richardson led Oregon (18-5, 7-3) with 17 points, while Payton Pritchard added 16 and Chris Duarte had 14.
After holding a 24-14 rebounding edge in the first half, the Cardinal (16-5, 5-3) were plus-12 in the second period to win the rebounding battle 41-39.
"I thought the rebounding was the difference," said Oregon head coach Dana Altman. "They flipped the switch on us in the second half."
How it Happened: Tied at 16-16 with 11:40 remaining in the first half, Oregon slowly pulled away from the Cardinal with a 14-7 run over the next eight minutes. Duarte had seven points in the stretch that made it 30-21 Ducks with 4:17 left in the period.
Oregon took a 36-28 into the break on a Richardson jumper just before the buzzer.
Duarte led Oregon with 12 points and four rebounds in the first half, while Pritchard added nine points and four assists.
The second half was a different story where the Ducks hit just 6-of-30 from the field.
Despite the cold shooting, the Ducks held the lead until the 7:02 mark, when Tyrell Terry's three-pointer put the Cardinal ahead for good, 50-49.
The Ducks pulled within four, 62-58, on Pritchard's three-pointer with 2:45 to play, but could get no closer.
Who Stood Out: Richardson made six-of-eight attempts from the field.
Notable: Pritchard tied E.J. Singler (2009-13) for the UO record in career starts with 132. … Oregon will play six of its final eight games in the state of Oregon.
Quotable:
Sophomore guard Will Richardson
"I thought that (Stanford) came out with a spark in the second half. They were more aggressive."
Up Next: The first Civil War of the 2019-20 season falls next Saturday in Corvallis (7:30 p.m., Pac-12 Networks).
