Hebard Named Pac-12, National Player of the Week
02/17/20 | Women's Basketball
EUGENE, Ore. – Ruthy Hebard has been named the Pac-12 player of the week after a pair of dominant performances in Oregon's sweep of the L.A. schools over the weekend, the conference announced on Monday.
On Tuesday, Hebard was announced as the Naismith women's national player of the week.
Hebard posted back-to-back double-doubles in Southern California while averaging 26.0 points and 13.5 rebounds per game in the Ducks' blowout wins over No. 7 UCLA and USC. The senior forward erupted for 30 points and 17 rebounds against the Bruins before following that up with 22 points and 10 rebounds on Sunday against the Women of Troy.
The Fairbanks, Alaska, native scored 30-plus points for the team-leading third time this season and fifth in her career on Friday in Pauley Pavilion, and her back-to-back 20-plus point showings give her five in the last seven games and a team-best 10 this season. Hebard now owns five double-doubles in her last eight games, 13 this season and 52 in her career, tied with Sabrina Ionescu for No. 4 in Oregon history.
Hebard also made moves up the Pac-12 record book over the weekend, flying up three spots to No. 7 on the all-time rebounding list (1,232) and two spots to No. 11 on the all-time scoring list (2,446).
This is Hebard's first Pac-12 player of the week award this season, and she joins Ionescu – who has won it three times this year – as Ducks to take home the honor. Oregon has won six conference weekly awards in total, with Jaz Shelley and Holly Winterburn each winning Pac-12 freshman of the week once. Hebard also joins Ionescu as Ducks to win the Naismith national player of the week award this season.
The Ducks (24-2, 13-1) remained at No. 3 in the Associated Press top-25 poll for the fourth straight week on Monday, and they will take a 12-game win streak into the Bay Area this week. Oregon holds a one-game lead in the Pac-12 standings over No. 4 Stanford with four regular-season games remaining, and the Ducks will face off with the Cardinal in a crucial matchup next Monday after playing at California on Friday.
