Ducks' Rally Falls Short at ASU

TEMPE, Ariz. – No. 14 Oregon rallied to tie the game 54-54 with 7:17 remaining, but fell to Arizona State 77-72 Thursday at Desert Financial Arena.
Payton Pritchard and Will Richardson each scored 18 points for the Ducks, while Chris Duarte added 10.
How it Happened: Down 54-43 with 10:09 to play, the Ducks (20-7, 9-5) reeled off an 11-0 run with six points from Pritchard and five from Duarte to tie the game.
Alonzo Verge Jr. hit a layin to put the Sun Devils (18-8, 9-4) ahead for good, but not before the Ducks nearly completed another double digit comeback.
Trailing 71-61 with 1:05 to play, the Ducks used a 7-1 run to close within four, 74-70, with :24 to play but ASU made its free throws to close out the game.
To open the contest, Oregon got off to a slow start, with Pritchard accounting for the Ducks' only two points in the first 6:27 as the Sun Devils built an 8-2 lead.
The Ducks got a three-point play from Chandler Lawson and a three-pointer from Richardson to tie it at 8-8 with 12:33 left in the half.
After Shakur Juiston hit a jumper to make it 19-17 ASU with 6:10 to go. The Sun Devils closed out the half on a 15-4 run to take a 34-23 lead into the break.
Addison Patterson led the Ducks with six points in the first half.
The Sun Devils scored 19 points off 16 Oregon turnovers. The Ducks also struggled from the free throw line, making 63.2 percent (12-of-19).
Who Stood Out: Lawson had a career-high five assists for the second time in three games. … Patterson's recent surge continued with eight points and six rebounds off the bench. … Duarte had a career-high three blocked shots.
Notable: Pritchard passed Blair Rasmussen (618/1981-85) for sixth on the UO career field goals list with 622.
