
Pritchard, Juiston Lead Ducks to Victory at No. 24 Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. – Shakur Juiston's layup with 1.4 seconds left in overtime gave No. 14 Oregon a 73-72 win over No. 24 Arizona in the latest classic between the two Pac-12 programs Saturday at the McKale Center.
Payton Pritchard scored a career-high 38 points in regulation, including a pair of free throws late to send the game to overtime tied at 64-64.
Then Juiston scored all nine of Oregon's points in overtime as the Ducks beat Arizona for a program-best fifth straight time.
Dylan Smith's layin gave Arizona a 72-71 lead with :29 remaining in overtime. After an Oregon timeout, Pritchard missed on a three-pointer, but Juiston tapped the rebound out and Will Richardson ran the ball down in the corner. Richardson then drove to the lane and drew three Arizona defenders before finding a wide-open Juiston for the winning basket.
"Will did a great job," said Juiston, who also hit a game-winner Nov. 27 versus No. 13 Seton Hall. "I knew they were going to collapse on him so I just stayed there and Will found me in the right place, right time."
Oregon (21-7, 10-5) pulled within a half game of first place Arizona State (10-4).
How it Happened: Neither team led by more than seven but Arizona (19-8, 9-5) threatened to pull away in the second half before the Ducks drew even. Trailing 58-51 with 7:31 to play, Oregon closed out the half on a 13-6 run to force overtime. Pritchard scored 11 points during that stretch.
Pritchard set the tone to open the game, scoring Oregon's first seven points on a three-pointer, a pair of free throws and a crossover layin as the Ducks held an early 7-3 lead with 16:27 left in the opening half.
Arizona responded with a quick 5-0 run to take a brief 8-7 lead, the first of 12 lead changes in the first half.
Pritchard broke a 33-33 tie with his fourth three-pointer of the half with :37 remaining to give Oregon a 36-33 lead at the break.
Pritchard had 20 points in the first half on 7-of-11 shooting overall and 4-of-8 from three-point range. Anthony Mathis drained three three-pointers for nine of his 11 first half points.
Who Stood Out: Pritchard had the biggest scoring night by a Duck since Tajuan Porter dropped 38 points on Portland State on. Nov. 12, 2006. He did it on a career-best 12 field goals and matched his season high with six three-pointers. Chris Duarte added 10 rebounds for the Ducks.
"With the atmosphere and everything, that was a heck of a performance," said Altman of his point guard.
Notable: Pritchard passed Greg Ballard (1,829/1973-77) for fourth on the UO career scoring list (1,856). … This was the fourth overtime game between Oregon and Arizona in the last nine meetings.
