Ducks Defeat Hawai'i Pacific in the 2020 Season Home Opener, 280.68-266.72

The Ducks secure their first win of the season over Hawai’i Pacific in dominant fashion.
EUGENE, Ore. - The No. 2 Oregon Ducks opened their season with a 280.68-266.72 win over the No. 6 Hawai'i Pacific Sharks on Saturday night at Matthew Knight Arena.
How it happened:
Oregon started off on a strong note, registering a perfect 10.00 in the compulsory toss. The Ducks tallied a total of 39.05 in the compulsory event, while Hawai'i Pacific finished with a score of 37.65.
Oregon continued its momentum into the acro event. The Ducks recorded another 10.00 in heat two, tallying a total score of 29.35 to beat Hawai'i Pacific's score of 28.85.
UO headed into intermission with a 98.05-95.20 lead over Hawai'i Pacific. Led by junior top, Sierra Garcia, the Ducks continued their streak of perfection with their third 10.00 score in heat three of the pyramid event.
The Ducks secured a 29.15-27.80 victory over the Sharks in the toss event, which segued into one of their best events, tumbling.
At the 2019 NCATA National Championship, Oregon won with its trio tumbling pass team. On Saturday at the 2020 season opener, in the final tumbling heat, sophomore Alyssa Hew led the way with a flawlessly executed solo pass, earning a 10.00. Oregon finished with a 56.65-51.00 win in tumbling over Hawaii Pacific.
The Ducks closed out their season opener with a win in the team event, outscoring Hawaii Pacific 96.83-92.72 to clinch the victory.

"I feel like this team came together. Some of our seniors got injured so we faced some adversity but we had some highs and standouts. We need more reps in our toss and tumbling, but looking forward to the future."
Up Next: The Ducks will compete in their first away meet of the season against Arizona Christian University in Glendale, Arizona on Saturday, Feb. 15th at 6 p.m. (PT).
