Oregon Defeats No. 3 Quinnipiac at Home

Eugene, Ore. - The No. 2 Oregon Ducks defeated the No. 3 Quinnipiac Bobcats, 274.870-273.705, on Sunday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena.
Oregon returned home and showed resilience, sliding past Quinnipiac in the team event to come out on top. The Ducks were ahead until the tumbling event, in which the Bobcats pulled forward to lead, 179.025-178.80. Despite losing both the toss and tumbling events, Oregon kept its spirit high and pulled through in the team event, scoring a 96.07 over Quinnipiac's 94.68 to secure the meet victory.
How it happened: Coming off of a three-meet road trip, the Oregon Ducks started off strong in front of the home crowd, defeating the Quinnipiac Bobcats 38.20-37.60 in the compulsory event. Oregon registered its best score of a 9.90 in the compulsory toss.
The 6-element acro group consisting of Alena Aucker, Yeelena Faustino, Olivia Gamboa, and Alyssa Hew tallied a 9.80 over the Bobcats score of 9.70 in heat two to help Oregon defeat the Bobcats in the acro event, 28.30-28.10.
In the pyramid event, Oregon edged out Quinnipiac in heat one, 9.85-9.75. Quinnipiac barely skid past Oregon in heat two, earning a score of 9.65 over Oregon's 9.60. The Ducks and Bobcats both earned a score of 9.85 to close out the final heat. Oregon defeated the Bobcats by half of a point, 29.30-29.25.
The Ducks went into intermission with a 95.80-94.95 lead over the Bobcats.
The Ducks battled in the toss event; however, the Ducks suffered its first loss. Quinnipiac defeated Oregon 28.35-27.80. Despite the loss, Oregon stayed in control of the meet, leading 123.60-123.30.
Oregon and Quinnipiac kept it a tight competition in the tumbling event. The Bobcats outscored the Ducks in the duo heat (9.40-8.80) and the trio heat (8.90-8.75).The Ducks bounced back to win the quad heat (8.65-8.50), with help from Caitlynn Emick, Calyx Hampton, Ashley Jamison and Mikaela Moore. Strong tumbling from Alena Aucker in the aerial pass helped the Ducks edge out Quinnipiac 9.45-9.375. Quinnipiac defeated Oregon by half of a point, 9.75-9.70, in the 6-element heat. Finally, Alyssa Hew earned the highest tumbling score for the Ducks with a score of 9.85 in the open heat to close out the event. Quinnipiac secured the tumbling event victory, 55.725-55.20, and took the meet lead, 179.025-178.80.
Despite going into the team event behind, the Ducks finished strong and defeating the Bobcats, 96.07-94.68, to secure the meet victory.

"My takeaway is that the team can overcome adversity. Going into this week we lost a really key player in all six events. We had to make a lot of changes in a short amount of time, we had little mistakes here and there, but the team executed. I'm really proud of them for overcoming that adversity and executing."
