Geniza, Ducks in Top Five After Round One

BANDON, Ore. – Kevin Geniza sits in the top five in a tie for fourth after shooting a 2-under 69 to lead the way for Oregon, which is tied for fifth at 3 over following the opening round of the Bandon Dunes Championship Sunday at the Pacific Dunes Course.
How it Happened: Geniza's day got off to an uneventful start, as he made four straight pars before trading birdie for bogey at holes 10 and 11. He then went bogey, birdie on 14 and 15 and headed into his last five holes at even par. Geniza then made a birdie at the par-4 second hole and an eagle at the par-5 third to move to 3 under on the day, but made bogey at four to finish 2 under.
Craig Ronne finished the opening round in a tie for 20th after a roller coaster of a 1-over 72. He was 6 over after his first five holes, but bounced back with three straight birdies at holes 10 through 12 to get back to 3 over. He went 2 under over his last seven holes, including birdies at two of his last three holes.
Tom Gueant and Yin Ho Yue both turned in 1-over 73s and are tied for 31st. Gueant turned in a relatively steady day, with two birdies and four bogeys. Yue had a more eventful day, making four bogeys and a double but four birdies, including two in his last three holes for a strong finish.
