04/25/20 | Football
Eugene, Ore. – The Green Bay Packers picked Oregon center Jake Hanson in the sixth round, overall pick No. 208, of the 2020 NFL Draft on Saturday.
With the selection, Hanson becomes the fifth center from Oregon picked all time in the NFL Draft and the first since the Chicago Bears chose Hroniss Grasu in the third round of the 2015 draft. The other three centers drafted out of Oregon were Bill Smith (16th round, 1967 by Pittsburgh), John McKean (17th round, 1972 by the Los Angeles Rams) and Fred Quillan (7th round, 1978 by San Francisco). Hanson was the fourth Oregon player picked in the 2020 draft joining quarterback Justin Herbert (1st Round, Los Angeles Chargers), linebacker Troy Dye (4th Round, Minnesota Vikings) and offensive guard Shane Lemieux.
As a junior, Hanson finished as the second-highest rated center in the Pac-12 Conference and the top-graded pass-blocking (84.2) interior lineman in the league according to Pro Football Focus. He played 896 snaps, including every snap in seven contests. Hanson was part of an offensive line that helped Oregon finish No. 25 nationally in scoring offense, which included five games of 200 yards rushing.
