Novitske Earns CoSIDA District Academic Honor
05/14/20 | Baseball
EUGENE, Ore. – Sam Novitske has accomplished something no other Duck has done in Oregon baseball program history. The sophomore became the first Oregon baseball player to earn a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District® Baseball First-Team, selected by CoSIDA.
With the honor, Novitske will advance to the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced from June 8-11.
The Ducks' second baseman, who boasts a 3.95 GPA, has started all 71 games during his two-year career at Oregon batting .288 with 59 runs scored and a .390 on-base percentage. Last season, Novitske set school freshman records for runs scored (48), hits (70), walks (34) and at-bats (233). He became just the third Oregon freshman in the UO modern era to bat .300, while also becoming just the second player in modern era program history to have three 4-hit games in a season.
During the shortened 2020 season, Novitske started all 15 games at second base after spending most of his freshman season at third base. He was one of three Ducks to reach base in all 15 games, registering a hit in 12 of the games, while finishing with a .347 OBP.
