Ducks, Yearian Win at Lane XC Invite

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon men's cross country team picked up a team and individual win Friday morning at the Lane XC Invitational. The Ducks' top five all finished in the top 10 of the scoring with redshirt senior Jack Yearian leading the way in victory.

Yearian led by three seconds at the 5K mark and went on to stop the clock in 24:53.2 for the win, more than six seconds clear of teammate and freshman Quincy Norman in second place. The Forest Grove, Ore., native tallied a runner-up finish in 24:59.9, good for his second top-10 finish of the season.
Newcomers Steven Neumaier (25:37.3) and Matt Wisner (25:42.6) finished fifth and sixth place, respectively, in the No. 3 and 4 spots in the UO lineup. Neumaier, a redshirt senior transfer from Cornell, was a 2019 NCAA East Preliminary qualifier in the steeplechase, while Wisner, a redshirt senior transfer from Duke, was twice an NCAA Indoor qualifier in the 800 meters.
In his first race as a Duck, freshman Michael Abeyta finished in 11th place overall—10th in scoring—to round out the team's top five. He navigated the 8K course in 26:44.3. Miles Owens was 16th overall in Friday's race. The redshirt junior began his career at William & Mary where he was a national qualifier at 800 meters in 2019.
