03/22/21 | Men's Golf
EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon heads into the final round with the lead after a marathon 36-hole day on its home course in which it shot 4 over to go in front by two shots.
Â
Three Ducks sit inside the top 10 individually with Tom Gueant leading the way in third place at 4 under. Nate Stember joins him as the other Oregon player in the lineup in the top five at 1 under overall while Craig Ronne is tied for seventh at even par playing as an individual.
Â
How It Happened: Gueant was one of only two players in the field to shoot under par in both rounds Monday, firing a 3-under 68 in round one and a 1-under 70 in round two. In round one, he birdied three of his first four holes with a bogey at the other to be 2 under through four, then made two birdies and all pars over the next 13 to go into the last at 4 under. He bogeyed the 18th and was tied for the lead after round one. In round two, he was even par through 15 holes but birdied the par-5 16th to get back into red figures on his round before a couple of closing pars.
Â
Stember got off to a hot start in round one and was 3 under through six holes, but dropped back to even with a bogey at seven and a double bogey at 11. He made three straight birdies from 14-16 to get back to 3 under but bogeyed 18 to shoot a 2-under 69 in round one. Stember had a bit of an up-and-down round two, making three birdies and four bogeys to post a 1-over 72.
Â
Competing as an individual, Ronne opened with a 3-under 68 in the first round, making five birdies while his only setbacks of the round came on back-to-back bogeys at holes eight and nine. He was 1 under after four holes in round two, but went 4 over for the rest of the day to shoot a 2-over 74 in the second round.
Â
Yuki Moriyama moved into the top 15 with a strong second round, shooting a 1-under 70 to get to 4 over for the tournament and tied for 13th. Jake Sollon provided a counting score in both of his rounds and is currently tied for 21st at 5 over.
