Yanez Earns National, Conference Pitcher of the Week Honors
05/10/21 | Softball
Oregon left-handed pitcher Brooke Yanez received NFCA National Pitcher of the Week honors in addition to Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week recognition after dominating over three appearances against Arizona this past weekend.
Â
This is the second time in her Oregon career that she has been named a national pitcher of the week while she is only the second pitcher in program history to receive the honor multiple times in a career (Cheridan Hawkins). Yanez has been named NFCA National Pitcher of the Week three times in her career, taking home the weekly honor once during her time at UC Davis.
Â
Yanez was named conference pitcher of the week for the second time this season after shutting down the top offense in the Pac-12 coming into the weekend, posting a 0.38 ERA and 24 strikeouts to just one walk over 18.2 innings. She picked up back-to-back complete game victories in the first two games of the series, giving up one run over seven innings in game one before spinning a shutout with 12 strikeouts in game two.
Â
She gave up just a sixth-inning solo homer in game one of the series, setting the Ducks up for a walk-off in the seventh inning, while striking out eight and walking just one. In game two, Yanez scattered four hits with 12 strikeouts and no walks in a shutout, becoming the first UO pitcher since May 17, 2018 to have double-digit strikeouts and no walks in a shutout.
Â
The Ventura, Calif. native is now 10th in Oregon single-season history with 215 strikeouts on the year to just 39 walks over 147.1 innings. Yanez lowered her ERA to 2.23 while she has posted an 18-5 record with 11 complete games and five shutouts.
