NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Oregon defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux is one of 35 players on the Walter Camp Player of the Year preseason watch list, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced on Friday morning.
Thibodeaux is one of 10 defensive players named to the watch list for the nation's fourth-oldest individual college football accolade. He is one of three Pac-12 players included, along with quarterbacks Jayden Daniels (ASU) and Kedon Slovis (USC).
Marcus Mariota (2014) is the lone Walter Camp Award winner in program history. Onterrio Smith (2002) and Dennis Dixon (2007) were both finalists, and LaMichael James (2011) and Justin Herbert (2019) each reached the semifinalist stage.
Thibodeaux was also named a Walter Camp first-team all-American earlier this summer, one that has been filled with preseason honors for the Los Angeles native. Thibodeaux represented the Ducks earlier this week at Pac-12 Media Day, where he was the lone unanimous preseason first-team all-conference selection.
In seven games in 2020, Thibodeaux became the first Duck since 2009-10 to lead Oregon in sacks (3.0) and tackles for loss (9.5) in back-to-back seasons. He turned in a dominant performance in the Pac-12 Championship Game to earn MVP honors and lead Oregon to a second straight conference title, totaling 12 quarterback pressures, 2.0 tackles for loss, and one sack.
Thibodeaux and the Ducks will open the 2021 season against Fresno State on September 4 in Autzen Stadium.
