Oregon Sweeps Season-Opening Doubleheader

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon men's tennis team opened its season by sweeping Boise State 7-0 and downing Weber State 6-1 at the Oregon Tennis Center.
The Ducks were a perfect 12-0 in singles matches, only losing four sets. Joshua Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteele won all four of their matches on the day.
Match 1: Oregon picked up the doubles point quickly with the No. 1 doubles duo of Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteele winning 6-2, followed by a 6-3 win by the No. 3 doubles combo of Youssef Kadiri and Luke Vandecasteele. The two teams played out the No. 2 doubles as well, where Jesper Klov-Nilsson and Ivailo Keremedchiev won 6-4.
Charlton (6-1, 6-2) and Klov-Nilsson (6-2, 6-1) quickly clinched their singles matches to give Oregon a 3-0 lead. Quinn Vandecasteele locked up the team victory with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph in No. 2 singles.
The No. 4-6 singles split the first two sets with the Ducks winning the first set and the Broncos winning the second. Ivailo Keremedchiev played a particularly close second set in the No. 4 singles, losing on a tiebreaker, before bouncing back to win 6-0, 7-6 (11-9), 1-0 (10-5).
Luke Vandecasteele (6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4)) and Avi Shugar (6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (11-9)) closed out their opponents in the tiebreaker to give Oregon a 7-0 sweep in the first match.
Match 2: Oregon's second match of the day started off with a battle for the doubles point. Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteele earned an early victory at No. 1 doubles (6-2), but Weber State earned 6-3 and 7-6 (7-2) wins at in the other two matches to take the point.
The Ducks bounced back in singles. Klov-Nilsson closed out his match 6-0, 6-0 to knot the match at one before Luke Vandecasteele won 6-0, 6-1 to put Oregon in front. Ryoma Matsushita closed out his opponent 6-1, 6-2 to put the Ducks a point away from a victory.
Quinn Vandecasteele clinched the win for Oregon with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles. Charlton added to the Ducks margin with a 6-2, 6-4 No. 2 singles victory. Keremedchiev closed the match with a hard-fought 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) win to keep the team undefeated in singles.
