EUGENE, Ore. — After leading Oregon in scoring twice last week, forward Grace VanSlooten took home the season's first Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award, the conference office announced Monday.
VanSlooten paced all freshmen in the conference with 18.0 points per game, including a 20-point outing in the Ducks' 100-57 win over Northwestern in the season opener. The 6-foot-3 VanSlooten went 10-for-16 from the field against the Wildcats along with three assists and two rebounds.
A product of Toledo, Ohio, VanSlooten followed that up with a game-high 16 points against Seattle U on Saturday. She added nine rebounds, three blocks and two assists while going 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
Through the season's first week, VanSlooten ranks third nationally among freshman forwards in points per game. She is shooting 55.6% (15-for-27) from the field to go with 5.5 rebounds a contest.
VanSlooten's freshman-of-the-week award is the Ducks' first since Sydney Parrish's weekly award on Dec. 21, 2020. Under ninth-year head coach Kelly Graves, Oregon has now collected 20 Pac-12 freshman of the week awards.
Oregon plays its only true road non-conference game Monday, as the Ducks take on Southern at 4:30 p.m. PT as part of the Pac-12/SWAC Legacy Series. The game can be seen on ESPN+ and Pac-12 Oregon.
