VanSlooten Earns Second Pac-12 Freshman of the Week Honor
12/19/22 | Women's Basketball
EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon forward Grace VanSlooten, who averaged 19.5 points on 64 percent shooting in the Ducks' 2-0 week, collected her second Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award Monday, the conference office announced.
VanSlooten dropped a career-high 26 points on 11-of-17 shooting to go with 10 rebounds in UO's 88-38 win over Eastern Washington Thursday for her second double-double of the season. The Toledo, Ohio, product followed that performance with 13 points while connecting on 5-of-8 field goals while grabbing seven boards in 22 minutes in a 97-33 victory over College of Charleston Sunday.
Her 26 points were the most by an Oregon freshman since Jaz Shelley's 32 points against UC Riverside on Dec 16, 2019. The 6-foot-4 VanSlooten is currently one of only two freshmen in the country averaging at least 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists a game – and the only shooting over 50.0 percent from the field.
VanSlooten's honor is Oregon's third weekly award this season, as Endyia Rogers was tabbed Pac-12 Player of the Week award last Monday. VanSlooten is the first Duck to earn multiple freshman-of-the-week awards since Satou Sabally during the 2017-18 season (4).
No. 16 Oregon finishes its non-conference schedule at the San Diego Invitational, taking on No. 17 Arkansas Tuesday at 1 p.m. PT. The Ducks will then take on either No. 3 Ohio State or South Florida Wednesday at Pechanga Arena.
