Late Surge Pushes Bears Past Ducks

Eugene, Ore. – Mercer held Oregon scoreless in the fourth quarter to earn a 15-12 victory over the Ducks on Friday.
Morgan McCarthy and Hanna Hilcoff led Oregon with three goals each. McCarthy also had an assist and grabbed six draw controls. Shannon Urey scored a game-high five goals for Mercer.
How it happened: The attack for both teams got out to a fast start, combining for four goals in the first four minutes. Oregon trailed 2-0 just 2:32 into the game before rebounding thanks to goals from Shonly Wallace and Mara Zajac.
Though the offenses cooled off a bit, the game remained close throughout the first half. Trailing 5-4, Madysyn Sweeney and McCarthy scored three straight goals to give Oregon its largest lead of the half. Hilcoff and Gabby Cleveland connected on a transition goal to send the Ducks to the break with an 8-6 advantage.
Mercer clawed back into the game in the third quarter, winning the period 6-4 to even the score at 12 entering the fourth. Hilcoff tallied two of Oregon's four goals in the quarter.
The Bears continued their momentum into the fourth quarter, scoring three straight goals to take a 15-12 lead. Mercer also held Oregon scoreless after the Ducks scored four goals in each of the first three quarters.
