EUGENE, Ore. – Former Oregon Ducks' outfielder Aaron Zavala will participate in the 2022 Arizona Fall League. The 38th overall pick in the 2021 draft will represent the Texas Rangers for the Surprise Saguaros. He is the first former Oregon position player selected to participate in the league.
During his two seasons in professional ball, Zavala has worked his way up from the Rookie League to Double-A. He is currently the Rangers' 11th-best prospect according to MLB Pipeline, and spent the 2022 season with the High-A Hickory Crawdads and the Double-A Frisco Roughriders. For the two teams combined, Zavala slashed .283/.428/.462 with 16 home runs and 61 RBI with 37 total extra-base hits. In the Double-A Texas League, he finished batting .298 with five homers and 20 RBI while reaching base at a .438 clip and slugging .519.
Over the course of three seasons with the Ducks, Zavala finished with the highest career batting average (.354) in the modern era of Oregon baseball while finishing with 10 home runs, 77 RBI, 93 runs scored, 24 triples and 15 stolen bases. He set an Oregon modern-era record with a .465 on-base percentage, while ranking second during that time with a .506 slugging percentage.
In his final year at Oregon, Zavala became just the second Duck's player named to all six major All-America teams and the first to earn academic All-America honors. He was named CoSIDA Academic All-America® first team, as well as CoSIDA Academic All-District. Zavala garnered first-team All-America honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association, Baseball America, D1Baseball, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Perfect Game, while claiming second-team honors from Collegiate Baseball.
