Gray Named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week

EUGENE, Ore. —Oregon freshman guard Chance Gray, after dropping a career-high 22 points against Washington State on Sunday, was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Gray's career-high point total came on 5-of-9 shooting from behind the 3-point line, draining four 3-pointers in the first half against the Cougars. Her five made 3-pointers were a career best and most by an Oregon freshmen since Dec. 16, 2019 when Jaz Shelley made 10 to set the UO freshman record and it was just the third time this season a Pac-12 freshman has made five 3s in a game.
The Cincinnati product recorded her second 20-point effort of the season and finished the week averaging 15.0 points per game. Gray also went 7-for-7 from the free throw line and leads the team in free throw shooting at 93.5 percent. Dating back to Nov. 14 at Southern, Gray has connected on 23 consecutive free throws (span of 16 games).
The Ducks have now claimed a conference-leading six Pac-12 weekly awards this season, including Endyia Rogers' player-of-the-week recognition on Dec. 12 to go with four weekly honors by Grace VanSlooten (3 freshman, 1 player).
The six total weekly honors and four freshman-of-the-week awards mark Oregon's most since the 2017-18 season. It is just the third time two different Ducks were tabbed Pac-12 Freshman of the Week in the same season and first since 2019-20 (Shelley, Holly Winterburn).
No. 23 Oregon (13-5, 4-3) returns to action Friday at Oregon State. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. PT at Gill Coliseum with television coverage on Pac-12 Network.
