Ducks, Stember Lead After Round One
10/30/23 | Men's Golf
CARMEL, Calif. – The 19th-ranked Oregon men's golf team sat atop the leaderboard after the first round of play at the Cal Poly Invitational on Monday evening, with fifth-year senior Nate Stember tied for the individual lead.
Â
How It Happened
Due to frosty conditions in the morning, tee times were delayed which prevented a full 36 holes from being played. Teams were able to finish 27 holes before the day ended.
Â
The Ducks came out firing to open the tournament as they sat atop the leaderboard with an 8-under 208 after the first 18 holes. Headlining for Oregon was Stember who shot six birdies in a 5-under performance that had him tied for the individual lead. Just behind him was Owen Avrit who turned in a 3-under performance that was good to tie for sixth after the first round, while Greg Solhaug used five birdies to shoot 2-under and put himself in a tie for 14th.
Â
Quotable
"This is a great golf course with fast greens and tough pins," head coach Casey Martin said. "We handled it well today but need to play great tomorrow to get the win."
