Powers-Johnson Becomes Fifth Unanimous All-American In Program History
12/14/23 | Football
WACO, Texas — Jackson Powers-Johnson joined an elite and exclusive group of Ducks on Thursday morning, becoming the fifth player in program history to earn unanimous all-America status after being named to the first team by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).
Â
The first-team honor by the AFCA was the fifth and final needed by Oregon's center to earn unanimous all-America status, following selections by the Walter Camp Foundation, Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), Associated Press and Sporting News.
Â
Powers-Johnson is Oregon's first unanimous all-American since 2021, joining program legends LaMichael James (2010), Marcus Mariota (2014), Penei Sewell (2019) and Kayvon Thibodeaux (2021) as the only UO players ever to earn the distinction.
Â
Last week, Powers-Johnson became the first Duck and the first Pac-12 player ever to win the Rimington Trophy as the nation's most outstanding center. He was also selected to the all-Pac-12 first team by both the league's coaches and the AP, and has earned additional first-team all-America honors from USA Today, the Athletic, CBS Sports and Pro Football Focus.
Â
In his first season as Oregon's starting center, Powers-Johnson led all FBS centers in pass-blocking grade (91.3), run-blocking grade (85.2) and overall grade (84.6) by Pro Football Focus. He allowed just one total pressure in 471 total pass-blocking opportunities while starting all 13 games for the Ducks.
Â
Powers-Johnson has been the anchor for a UO offensive line that leads the nation with just five sacks allowed, and is one of four finalists for the Joe Moore Award as the top O-line unit in the country. Oregon is also the nation's highest-graded pass-blocking team by PFF at 92.0, and the Ducks are fourth in fewest tackles-for-loss allowed (42).
Â
A native of Draper, Utah, Powers-Johnson was a two-time winner of the Pac-12 Offensive Lineman of the Week award and a three-time winner of the Joe Moore Award Pancake of the Week.
