Gierke Named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week

EUGENE, Ore. - After leading the Oregon defense in a 17-6 victory over Xavier, graduate defender Logan Gierke claimed the first Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week award of the season on Tuesday.
Gierke led the Ducks in the opener with four caused turnovers and five ground balls. It was Gierke's fourth career game with at least three caused turnovers and her second with five-plus ground balls. The game also marked the third consecutive game with a caused turnover for Gierke.
The highlight of the game defensively was Oregon's shutout third quarter against Xavier. It was the first time Oregon has held an opponent scoreless in a quarter since were introduced in 2022. The effort led to a defining stretch that left Xavier scoreless from 6:33 in the second quarter until 8:01 left in the fourth, resulting in an 8-0 Oregon run.
This is Gierke's first career conference weekly award and the first Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week award for a Duck since joining the conference.
Oregon Lacrosse is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 18, against Niagara for a 1 p.m. contest at Papé Field.
