Dallas earns Pac-12 weekly honor
03/20/23 | Baseball
EUGENE, Ore. – After helping lead Oregon to a Pac-12 Conference series win at Washington State, the conference selected Oregon relief pitcher Matt Dallas as the league's pitcher of the week.
Dallas (Salida, Calif. / Gregori HS / Lane CC) claimed the award after tossing seven scoreless innings over three appearances last week. The Ducks' righty picked up the win in Oregon's series-clinching victory on Sunday tossing four scoreless innings while helping the Ducks rally from a six-run deficit to win the game. Dallas allowed just one hit while matching a career high with five strikeouts.
Dallas entered Sunday's game with Oregon trailing 7-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning with runners on first and second and one out. He struck out the first batter he faced and then got a weak comebacker to end the WSU threat. Dallas retired 12 of the first 13 batters he faced in the game while retiring the Cougars in order in both the fifth and the seventh, with the only batter reaching during that stretch on a one-out hit-by-pitch in the sixth.
The Sunday appearance came after Dallas tossed a scoreless eighth inning on Saturday in Oregon's 14-8 come-from-behind win. He retired all three batters he faced in the series-evening win. On Thursday, Dallas tossed two scoreless innings with a strikeout in a nonconference game vs. Niagara.
Dallas is the 13th different Oregon pitcher to claim either Pac-12 or Pac-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week honors since 2010. Those 13 pitchers have combined to win 20 conference pitcher of the week awards.
