Ducks Split Two Matches Friday in Idaho

The duo of Ella Tyus and Bea Wetton extended its winning streak to seven in a row.

BOISE, Idaho – The Oregon beach volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday afternoon at the Boise Classic, opening the day by sweeping its way past Arizona Christian. In their second match, the Ducks fell to host Boise State. Individually, the team of Ella Tyus and Bea Wetton were 2-0 on the day to push their winning streak to seven.

The Ducks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with wins at No. 2 and 4 pairs during the first wave of play on Friday. Zoe Almanza and Chloe Brown secured the opening point of the dual with a 21-12, 21-15 victory over Amaya Brown and Haley Brown.

In their first match together, Valerie Peterson and Batia Rotshtein recorded a 21-15, 21-16 sweep in the No. 4 spot in the lineup. Individually, it was the fifth win of the season for each. The result also marked a high spot for Peterson who had played all her previous matches at No. 5 pairs.

Ella Tyus and Bea Wetton continued their winning ways—six in a row—to clinch the match, beating the ACU pair of Brianna Boeckman and Misty McCall in straight sets. Now in their second match at the top spot, the UO pair posted a 21-12, 21-11 to secure the team win.

Another new pairing in Presley McCaskill and Abby Plevin pushed the Ducks' lead to 4-0 with a sweep at the No. 5 spot, a 21-11, 21-11 victory. Natasha George and Ashley Schroeder completed the dual sweep with a 21-18, 21-11 win at the No. 3 spot in the lineup. The win also doubled as the duo's 10^th victory of the year, joined Tyus and Wetton in double figures.

The host Broncos secured the first three points of Friday evening's dual before Oregon could get on the board with a win by Tyus and Wetton at the No. 1 spot. Along the sweep at the top spot, the Ducks took the first sets at No. 3 and 4 pairs but Boise State was able to rally for three-set wins in each instance.

Tyus and Wetton extended their winning streak to seven in a row with their 21-17, 21-16 triumph over Sierra Land and Madison Nichols. With the victory, the Ducks' duo improved to 13-8 this season and 3-0 in the No. 1 spot of the lineup.
