UO Falls to UCLA Friday

EUGENE, Ore. – In its second-to-last home match of the season, 49th-ranked Oregon fell to No. 24 UCLA, 4-0, Friday afternoon at the Student Tennis Center.
Oregon (11-8, 4-5) dropped a competitive doubles point before UCLA picked up straight-set victories at Nos. 1-3 in singles to earn the sweep. The Bruins' lineup featured the nation's No. 6 doubles team in addition to a pair of ranked singes players in 19th-ranked Fangran Tian and No. 106 Kimmi Hance.
The Bruins were able to steal the doubles point after getting wins on courts one and three. UCLA's top pair of Kimmi Hance and Elise Wagle, ranked sixth in the country, got past UO's 77th-ranked team of Sophie Luescher and Uxia Martinez Moral, 6-2.
Myah Petchey and Karin Young challenged Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer and Fangran Tian on court three, but fell 6-4. Jo-Yee Chan and Ares Teixido Garcia went unfinished at No. 2, as the pair trailed 5-4 to Ava Catanzarite and Sasha Vagramov.
In singles action, Luescher faced off with Tian on court one, with Tian earning a 6-4, 6-1 win while Teixido Garcia took on Hance at No. 2. Hance came away with a 6-2, 6-1 victory and Catanzarite got by Petchey at the third spot, 6-1, 6-0.
Martinez Moral grabbed the opening set in her matchup with Wagle, 6-4, but the match went unfinished after the Bruins clinched their fourth point of the afternoon.
Chan, playing at the sixth position, rebounded from a 6-2 loss in the first set in her match with Lutkemeyer, earning a split with a 6-4 win in set two.
Oregon and UCLA entered the match in a sixth-place tie in the Pac-12 standings. The Bruins now lead the all-time series, 1-27.
The Ducks finish the regular season on Sunday against USC at the Student Tennis Center, as five seniors will be recognized in a pre-match Senior Day ceremony. Match time is set for 11 a.m. with the pre-match ceremony starting at about 10:45 a.m.
