Ducks Victorious in Pac-12 Tournament
04/26/23 | Men's Tennis
OJAI, Calif. – Oregon men's tennis secured a come-from-behind victory in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament today. The Ducks had previously come up just short against the Sun Devils twice this season, making the victory that much sweeter.
Â
Things started off strong for the Ducks in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament. Oregon's No. 1 doubles team of Joshua Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteele got back on track, winning their match 6-2. Doubles partners Luke Vandecasteele and Vlad Breazu continue to develop their chemistry and put it on display this afternoon, winning 6-1 on court three to give the Ducks an early lead.
Â
Momentum quickly swung in favor of Arizona State, as the Sun Devils grabbed three straight-set wins on courts one, three and four to take a 3-1 lead. The Ducks then slowly shifted the match in their favor. Freshman Vlad Breazu grabbed his 15th win of the season, taking a straight-set 7-5, 7-5 win on court five. Oregon would need both Vandecasteele brothers to win their matches, both of which were headed to a third set.
Â
Luke trailed 5-3 in the third set and was at match-point, before consecutive points made it 5-4 in favor of ASU. Back on serve, Luke tied things up and 5-5. The match would end up in a tiebreaker, where Luke would come away victorious 8-6. With the match even at 3-3, Luke's brother Quinn would need a win to clinch it. In the final set, things were even at 4-4, when Quinn got a break point for a 5-4 lead and the serve. He took care of business on the serve for the match-clinching win.
