Football Practice Recap: Aug. 2

The Ducks began preseason camp with a workout Wednesday afternoon.
Preseason camp began for the Oregon football team Wednesday, with a practice in the afternoon on the team's outdoor practice fields. The Ducks will be back in action Thursday afternoon.
After Wednesday's practice, which was closed to media, head coach Dan Lanning met with reporters. Below are some highlights, with video of his full interview session below.
On starting fall camp: "I'm just excited to be out on the grass. I think every one of our players is as well."
On what he saw Wednesday: "We pushed it at a high level today; we've got to come out and push it at a high level again tomorrow. We got to be elite when it comes to our recovery and the things we do away from the field."
On what he liked from practice: "We played fast. We obviously want to play fast. I saw that in moments. I saw moments where it wasn't as good, so it's something we can continue to improve on."
On the status of running back Dante Dowdell and linebacker Jerry Mixon after they were involved in an auto accident earlier in the week: "Thank God they're both healthy. They were both in an incident there. Jerry had a little bit of a laceration they were able to stitch up. Both those guys are going to be good."
On how veterans can help the team's many newcomers get up to speed: "That's certainly an expectation for us, that these guys that have been through this, they gotta be able to pull some young guys along with them."
