Football Practice Recap: Aug. 3
08/03/23 | Football, @GoDucksMoseley
Preseason camp continued for the Oregon football team on Thursday afternoon.
The Oregon football team held its second practice of this year's preseason camp Thursday afternoon, again working out in helmets and spider pads on the program's outdoor practice fields.
Afterward, coordinators Tosh Lupoi and Will Stein met with local reporters to offer their impressions of the personnel and progress on their respective sides of the ball through two days.
Video of their interview sessions is embedded below. Some highlights:
Stein on how facing the UO defense helps QB Bo Nix and the rest of the offense: "They have a lot in on defense, which is great for us. They test us every single day. Dan (Lanning) and Tosh do a good job of prepping those guys on defense, and Bo gets a lot of looks each day."
Lupoi on facing the UO offense: "Iron sharpens iron. We've got a lot of great offensive players out there; we've got plenty of great defensive players as well. Now it's just the competitive edge that each group brings every single day. That's our focus. Coach Stein and the offense are doing a lot of great things for us that are going to prepare us better for the season, with what they're doing on offense and for us to adjust to that. That's been great to see."
Lupoi on steps the defense wants to take this season: "We want to be a defense that is respected and feared. The only way we get there is what we do in the body of work every single day (at practice). We have a lot of things we're focused on to improve and a lot of things we need to get better at."
Stein on balancing reps for players at each position: "Dan does a great job. Before practice we really chart out reps for everybody, to make sure that they're equal reps. This is fall camp — it's a long camp, it's hot out here in Eugene right now, so we're gonna make sure guys are fresh. We chart all that stuff before we even go out to the practice field. We make sure that guys aren't getting overloaded. And we follow that pretty closely the entire time."
