Football Practice Recap: Sept. 13
09/13/23 | Football, @GoDucksMoseley
The Ducks are preparing to host Hawai'i on Saturday at 5 p.m.
It was another day of work in full pads for the Oregon football team during practice Wednesday on the team's outdoor fields.
The No. 13 Ducks (2-0) are preparing to host Hawai'i on Saturday in Autzen Stadium at 5 p.m.
After practice Wednesday, local media met with head coach Dan Lanning along with offensive lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson, defensive back Evan Williams and offensive lineman Faaope Laloulu. Video of those interviews is embedded below.
Some highlights from coach Lanning …
On work done to clean up penalty issues from the Texas Tech game: "A lot of drill work — false starts, pass interference, both. So creating drills that mimic the game and then re-creating those moments."
On the team's tackling through two weeks of the season: "Hot and cold. Really good week one, not as good week two. So we're drilling it a lot in practice right now. It's also about finding the right tacklers to put in a position to make tackles. Guys that are going to be willing tacklers."
On what led to the blocked punt at Texas Tech: "A little miscommunication about where we're working to, from a tackle standpoint, and we've got to do a better job in the shield. And we've assessed that this week."
On how some reported injuries might impact Hawai'i defensively: "What we do know is, everyone they put on the field, they play with great effort. It's probably one of the best teams as far as how they go: relentless effort every single play, and they play with a mentality. So whoever they put out there we'll have to be ready for."
