Ducks Record Historic Performance At Amer Ari Intercollegiate
02/11/24 | Men's Golf
WAIMEA, Hawaii – The 18th-ranked Oregon men's golf team finished the Amer Ari Intercollegiate on Saturday with a score of 33 under par, tying for the third-lowest score to par in program history at a 54-hole event and lowest since the 2014-15 season.
The Ducks shot their best round of the tournament with a 13-under 275 on Saturday, helping them finish 14th in a 20-team field that featured nine ranked programs. Nate Stember led the way as he capped a solid weekend of play by firing a 5-under 67 in the final round to tie for 19th, logging his fourth top-20 finish of the season.
How It Happened
Stember got off to a rocky start with bogeys on two of his first five holes, matching his bogey total from the first two rounds combined. He regained his form in brilliant fashion as he caught fire to shoot five birdies in six holes, finishing the tournament at 13 under par to lead the Ducks.
After a frustrating first round, Greg Solhaug bounced back to shoot the lowest round of any Duck in the tournament with a 6-under 66. Solhaug was bogey free with six birdies, including three in a four-hole stretch on the front nine, and finished the tournament tied for 55th. Fellow Duck Aiden Krafft, who was competing as an individual, also finished tied for 55th.
Eric Doyle and Greyson Leach each finished the tournament at 4-under overall to tie for 71st. Leach went under par in each of his three rounds of the weekend, firing four birdies on the final day to card a 71.
Quotable
"It wasn't our best week," head coach Casey Martin said. "Nate has been good all year for us, and the other guys have battled through some ups and downs. We shot 33 under, so it wasn't a bad weekend. The field was super strong and we just got lapped a bit."
