LA QUINTA, Calif. – Oregon men's golfer Nate Stember shot a 1-under 70 to position himself in a tie for 24th after the first round of The Prestige at the PGA West Greg Norman Course on Monday afternoon.
Stember led the way for the No. 22 Ducks, who shot 9 over (293) as a unit to tie for 23rd after the opening round. Hugh Adams and Greg Solhaug each shot a 74 while Owen Avrit finished the day with a 4-over 75.
How It Happened
Stember played bogey-free golf through his first 11 holes before carding back-to-back bogeys on 12 and 13. The fifth-year senior recovered by sinking two birdies in his final five holes, bringing him back under par to finish the round five strokes off the leader.
Adams, who made his first appearance in the starting lineup for Oregon, fired two birdies on the day to earn a counting score for his team. After a difficult front nine, Solhaug responded by firing two birdies and zero bogeys on the back nine to tie with Adams at 76th overall. Avrit finished just one stroke behind his teammates at 4 over, while Aiden Krafft sank two birdies on the back nine to finish the day 6 over.
