Series Sweep Eludes Ducks
03/24/24 | Baseball
How It Happened: Oregon jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Anson Aroz put the Ducks on the board with a one-out solo home run over the right field wall. Later in the inning, Bryce Boettcher reached on a throwing error before stealing second. Justin Cassella then singled to left center to make it a two-run game.
Â
Arizona tied it with a pair of runs in the fourth, before taking the lead with a run in the sixth and four more in the seventh.
Â
The Ducks got back within three in their half of the seventh. Carter Garate reached to lead off the inning on a hit-by-pitch. He came around to score on a Cassella single that was misplayed by Arizona center fielder Brendan Summerhill. Drew Smith plated Cassella, who ended up on third after the error, with a base hit to left field.
Â
Arizona put the game away in the eighth scoring six more runs before adding two more in the ninth.
Â
Box Score Notes: Jacob Walsh doubled in the sixth to move into sole possession of eighth on Oregon's career doubles list with 35 … Starting pitcher Kevin Seitter struck out six straight Arizona batters in the first and second innings … Arizona's win snapped Oregon's six-game winning streak in the series.

On Deck: Oregon steps out of conference for a four game series with Seattle at PK Park that starts Wednesday and wraps up on Saturday.

Head Coach Mark Wasikowski
Â
On Overall weekend performance…
"Well, we haven't been able to sweep a series yet, which is disappointing. We have been able to win two out of three every weekend, which is good. We just need to continue having a two-out-of-three type scenario and winning that is good. We're disappointed that we weren't able to pull off the sweep today, but credit to them, they played better than we did."
Â
On if lineup is headed in the right direction…
"Time will tell. Overall, we'll see, we got a little sloppy defensively today, didn't help out. I thought that probably is how we gave them a little bit of momentum as we lost it on the defensive end. Lineup wise, we'll just analyze it a little bit more and try to figure that out. But yeah, we ran the same one out there three games in a row, won a series, and hopefully we can continue to build off this."
