FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Oregon acrobatics and tumbling student-athletes Makena Carrion and Alexis Giardina were each named all-Americans by the National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association on Sunday following the 2024 NCATA National Championships. Additionally, Cami Wilson was one of eight student-athletes named to the NCATA All-Academic Team while 19 Ducks earned spots on the academic honor roll.
Carrion earned the distinction for the second consecutive season and joins head coach Taylor Susnara as one of 11 Ducks all-time to earn multiple all-America honors in a career. The senior top was a staple in acro and pyramid for the Ducks, including the open pyramid heat which averaged 9.82 points per meet entering the weekend and scored a perfect 10 against Hawai'i Pacific (March 24).
Giardina becomes the 17th Duck to earn NCATA All-American distinction. A top, base and tumbler, Giardina displayed impressive versatility for Oregon as the junior was a regular participant in eight heats in addition to the team event. The San Jose, Calif., native played a key role as base in Oreogn's inversion pyramid heat that, entering the weekend, averaged an impressive score of 9.84 in addition to the 450 salto and synchronized toss heats that each averaged above 9.50.
Wilson was one of eight student-athletes honored as a member of the all-academic team. The senior has already earned her bachelors degree and is currently earning her masters all while being a leading presence for Oregon on the mat. Wilson consistently competed in nine heats for the Ducks in addition to the team event this season.
In addition to this season's postseason award winners, the NCATA announced its yearly honor roll which honors student-athletes with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher. This year's list includes 19 student-athletes from UO: Shea Barnes, Kaylie Barrera, Selah Bell, Avery Dodd, Haley Ellis, Mari Fukutomi, Rachel Furlong, Bethany Glick, Emilie Henningsen, Clara Hoffman, Morgan Hood, Kamryn Horiuchi, Nicole Jackson, Mallory Kent, Camille Mantoani, Caelin Niebergall, Morgan Sweeney, Cami Wilson and Sophia Wing.
