The Day That Was …
One thing you can count on is an entertaining and thrilling game whenever Spain hits the court in these 2024 Paris Games. UO alum Maite Cazorla and Team Spain secured a spot in the quarterfinal round with a second straight one-point victory, a 63-62 win over Puerto Rico in Group A.
Cazorla, who started for the second straight game in her second Olympic Games, hauled in four rebounds with two assists and two points in helping her side remain unbeaten. Spain owned a 39-25 lead at halftime, only to see Puerto Rico rally and even the score, 44-44, after three quarters.
A pair of clutch free throws with one second remaining on the clock from Cazorla's teammate Laura Gil gave Spain a 63-62 victory. Cazorla's lone field goal came in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter, giving her team a 46-44 lead.

Also on the court Wednesday was current UO women's basketball player Elisa Mevius, who helped Germany to an upset over Team USA on the opening day of the women's 3x3 event. On Wednesday, Germany was handed a 21-19 defeat by Australia, who won on a buzzer-beating two-pointer by Alex Wilson.
Mevius finished with six points (second on team), going 5-of-8 from the field, along with four rebounds. She was 1-for-3 from deep while connecting on all four one-point shot attempts.
