Football Practice Report: Aug. 17
08/17/24 | Football
The Oregon football team held its second scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday afternoon in Autzen Stadium, just two weeks before the 2024 season officially gets underway against Idaho on Aug. 31.
Head coach Dan Lanning addressed the media following the scrimmage. Video of that full interview is available below.
Some highlights from Coach Lanning:
On evaluating scrimmages and individual performances: "I think today is extremely important. As far as laying out what the season looks like, I don't think it matters that much because there's a long, long season and we've got to continue to develop players within out program. Where these next two weeks look like, that's really important to see where we're at but what the growth looks like 11 weeks from now could be completely different. We've got to figure out who can play football quick, I think today gives us a great idea where that's at and then who we've got to develop to get us where we need to be."
On the selflessness on the offensive side of the ball: "Ultimately, it takes player ownership to have that mentality, I don't think that's natural. Even if they're saying 'Hey, we're selfless,' I think they're conscientiously telling themselves they have to be that. Every great team I've been around, you know, individual success comes through team success and those guys recognize that."
On limiting penalties: "We still have more penalties than I want to see, but ultimately huddle break operation, how quickly we can get to the line of scrimmage and execute a play, a lot of that was cleaner."
