Ducks Wrap Up First Day in Colorado

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Oregon women's tennis team completed a successful first day in its first fall tournament Friday, picking up three singles wins and three doubles victories at the Jon Messick Invitational at the CSU Tennis Complex.

In singles, sophomore Candela Aparisi and freshman Patsy Daughters each advanced to the semifinal round of Flight B, while redshirt junior Olivia Symons moved onto the semifinals in Flight C.

Aparisi got by Sydney Schnell of Weber State in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, while Daughters recovered from a first-set loss to win in three sets in her collegiate debut, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2., over Utah State's Olivia Halvorsen. Symons picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win over Wyoming's Eugenia Ceinos.

On the doubles side, Young and senior transfer Marjorie Souza defeated Niyati Kukreti and Indya Nespor of Utah State, 6-3, in the first round of Flight B. Symons and sophomore transfer Julia Visaya also bested a USU duo, taking down Natalie Paterova and Kylee Sperry 6-3, in Flight C.

Both Ducks doubles pairs dropped their second-round matchups later in the day.

After falling in their opening-round doubles match, Daughters picked up her second overall victory of the day with partner Tilde Jagare, as the pair got by Air Force's Carissa Holguin/Charisse Tigrado, 6-3, in Flight F.

Saturday's action gets going at 8 a.m. PT and will feature two rounds of singles with one round of doubles. Live scoring and draws can be found here.
