
UO Finds Success Saturday at Jon Messick Invitational

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Oregon women's tennis team built on its success in the second day of the Jon Messick Invitational, as the Ducks went 6-1 in singles and 5-1 in doubles Saturday at the CSU Tennis Complex.
In singles, sophomore Candela Aparisi, freshman Patsy Daughters and redshirt junior Olivia Symons all remained unbeaten in the three-day tournament, picking up semifinal victories in their respective flights. Daughters and Symons each fought through with three-set wins win Aparisi earned a spot in the final with a straight-set victory.
Aparisi got past Victoria Erechtchenko of Colorado State, 6-4, 6-2, with Daughters overcoming a 6-3 first-set loss to win the next two frames 6-2, 7-6 (4) over Cristina Ramos Sierra from Iowa State. Symons and the Cyclones' Maria de la Paz Alberto split the first two sets before Symons narrowly clinched a 7-5 third-set victory.
In the consolation bracket of Flight E, sophomore transfer Julia Visaya defeated Joselyn Limbago of Air Force, 6-3, 6-4, to pick up the first singles win as a Duck. Also in consolation play, senior Karin Young won a three-set thriller against the Aggies' Indya Nespor, 3-6, 6-2, 11-9, and Marjorie Souza earned a straight-set win over Colorado State's Sarah Weekley, 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles action, three UO doubles pairs each played two matches.
Both Ducks doubles pairs dropped their second-round matchups later in the day, with the duos of Tilde Jagare and Symons along with Aparisi and Visaya each going 2-0.
Jagare and Symons eased by Utah State's Indya Nespor and Kylee Sperry, 6-2, before defeating Suzanie Pretorius and Valeska San Martin Ramirez of Iowa State), 6-3.
Aparisi and Visaya first got by USU's Olivia Halvorson and Natalie Paterova, 6-0, before finishing the day with a 6-3 win over Wyoming's Ruby Young and Elena Trencheva, 6-3.
After falling their opponents withdrew in the first matchup of Flight 1, Souza and Young suffered a 7-5 loss to ISU's Cristina Ramos Sierra and Julia Camblor in their second match of the day.
