Daughters Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week
01/22/25 | Women's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. – Leading Oregon to a 2-0 opening weekend while going unbeaten across four combined singles and doubles matches, Patsy Daughters was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Â
Playing at the top doubles spot in addition to No. 3 singles, Daughters helped the Ducks begin their spring campaign with a pair of 4-0 sweeps over Portland State and Montana last Friday at the Student Tennis Center.
Â
Playing with partner Karin Young, the duo began the day with a 6-1 win over the Vikings top pair before a 6-3 triumph against the Grizzlies to help clinch both doubles points.
Â
Daughters, a Eugene native, then picked up a pair of straight-set victories in singles, dropping a total of five games across her two matches. Facing PSU's Hana Abdelhamid on court three, Daughters came away with a 6-3, 6-1 win. Later that afternoon, she took down Montana's Piper Freeman 6-1, 6-0.
Dating back to the fall season, Daughters is a combined 5-0 in singles action in her freshman season. Daughters earns her first conference weekly honor and the first by the Ducks as members of the Big Ten.
Â
Oregon continues a season-opening seven-match homestand at the Student Tennis Center this weekend, hosting Seattle on Friday (1 p.m.) and Long Beach State on Sunday (11 a.m.).
