Ducks Fall at No. 39 Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. – Facing its fourth straight ranked opponent, and fifth in six matches to open Big Ten play, the Oregon women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 39 Northwestern at Combe Tennis Center on Monday.
Despite not winning the doubles point, the Ducks (7-8, 0-6) narrowly missed out on victories on courts two and three. Candela Aparisi and Marjorie Souza, at No. 3, were tied with their Northwestern counterpart 5-5 before falling 7-5. Bridget Mihulka and Karin Young were in the midst of a tiebreaker at No. 2 when the doubles point was decided.
Northwestern (10-8, 3-3) went on to win in straight sets on courts two, four and five to complete the sweep. Jagare was the only Duck to win her first set, winning 7-5 against Mika Dagan Fruchtman. Her match went unfinished in the second set after the Wildcats earned their fourth team point.
Through 15 spring matches, Oregon's doubles teams are a combined 19-19 to go with a 33-33 singles mark.
Oregon returns to the UO Student Tennis Center this weekend to take on Indiana on Friday (12 p.m.) and Purdue on Sunday (11 a.m.).
