
Kessler, Carter Top 7,200 Points at Bryan Clay

Both Ducks finished top 10 in the top section of the decathlon.
EUGENE, Ore. – Competing in their first collegiate decathlon, redshirt freshmen Koby Kessler and Aiden Carter topped 7,200 points in top-10 finishes at the Bryan Clay Multis in Azusa, Calif. Kessler finished in sixth place with 7,292 points while Carter was eighth with 7,235 points over the two-day competition.

In the final event of the weekend, Kessler took first in the 1500 meters in 4:27.43 to move from 10th to sixth place thanks to a collection of 762 points. He finished more than nine seconds ahead of the field. Kessler's day also including an all-conditions best of 14.78 (+2.8) in the 110 hurdles and a lifetime-best measure of 41.73m/136-11 in the javelin.

It was Kessler's first decathlon since his senior prep season at the 2022 Nike Outdoor Nationals meet.

Carter's afternoon began with a wind-aided 14.60 in the 110 hurdles, an all-conditions best. He added marks of 4.70m/15-5 in the pole vault and 51.22m/168-0 in the javelin. The clearance in the pole vault was an outdoor PB and just off his overall best of 4.75m/15-7 from this past indoor season.

Senior Arthur Katahdin finished 12th overall in Group A with 5,922 points, a score including a no-height in the pole vault.

Notable: Gianna Bullock, competing unattached, finished fifth in the top section of the heptathlon with a lifetime best of 5,555 points. She entered the weekend with a previous best of 5,203 points from last year's Pac-12 Championships in Boulder, Colo.

The Ducks host the Oregon Open and Oregon Team Invitational next weekend at Hayward Field. The team will host Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Texas A&M, Utah and Wichita State.
