05/24/25 | Baseball
OMAHA, Neb. — No. 4 Oregon had its 11-game winning streak snapped in the final game of pool play at the Big Ten Tournament losing to Nebraska 7-3 on Saturday morning.
Oregon fell behind early and struggled to mount much offense against Nebraska's pitching. The Ducks (42-14) also struggled defensively committing a season-high four errors, three coming in the first five innings with two leading to runs.
How It Happened: Nebraska scored two runs in the first and added an unearned run in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead before Oregon got on the board in the bottom of the second inning.
Anson Aroz, who had three hits on Thursday, doubled with one out and came around to score on a Maddox Molony RBI single up the middle.
The Cornhuskers added a run in the fourth after the runner reached when Drew Smith slipped on a routine fly ball to right field. They added two more in the fifth, one earned and one unearned, to chase Grayson Grinsell and take a 6-1 lead.
Nebraska (30-27) added a run in the eighth inning before Oregon finally got the bats going. After leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, Oregon mounted a rally in the ninth, scoring two runs.
Chase Meggers led off the inning with a double inside the third-base bag before moving to third on a Ryan Cooney bunt single. Carter Garate picked up an RBI with a hustle double to left center before Cooney scored on a Mason Neville sacrifice fly.
Box Score Notes: Aroz had three hits for the second consecutive game, while Garate, Molony and Dominic Hellman each had a pair of hits … Ryan Featherston pitched 4.0 innings in relief, his second-longest outing of the season.
On Deck: The NCAA selection show is Monday morning at 9 a.m. (PT).
