On Top of the World
Oregon enters 2025-26 with the top-ranked amateur women's golfer in the world in junior Kiara Romero. Already one of the most accomplished players in program history, Romero ascended to the top spot in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and received the prestigious McCormack Medal following a sensational sophomore season. Romero became the first two-time, first-team all-American in program history while also being named the 2025 Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Year. She won the individual Big Ten title while leading the Ducks to the team championship, and followed that up with a dominant individual win at the NCAA Gold Canyon Regional that featured the lowest individual round in program history with a 10-under 62. At the NCAA Championships, Romero tied for seventh overall with a 5-under 283 to power Oregon back into match play, breaking her own program record for the lowest individual score in a 72-hole tournament. On the season, Romero carded two wins, four runner-up finishes, nine top-10 finishes and 11 top-20 showings in 11 tournaments while shooting par-or-better in 26 of 32 rounds with 16 sub-70 performances. During the spring, Romero combined to shoot an incredible 57-under par in seven tournaments while finishing par-or-better in 20 of 22 rounds. Romero shattered her own UO single-season records for scoring average (69.91) and birdies (138).
Vinijchaitham, Tsuru Give Oregon a Big Three
Romero wasn't alone in dominating on the course in 2024-25. Suvichaya Vinijchaitham put together a fantastic true freshman season while earning WGCA second-team all-America and WGCA all-Freshman honors, and Karen Tsuru enjoyed a breakout sophomore season en route to earning WGCA all-America honorable mention recognition. Vinijchaitham and Tsuru both joined Romero on the all-Big Ten first team, and both earned individual tournament wins throughout the year. Vinijchaitham finished her rookie year with a terrific 71.46 scoring average while shooting par-or-better in 20 of 35 rounds with nine rounds in the 60s. Her 123 birdies were second-most in program history, behind only the 138 from Romero, and she notched eight top-10 finishes and 11 top-20 showings in 12 tournaments. Vinijchaitham earned her first career win at the Alice & John Wallace Classic while leading Oregon to the team victory, headlined by her second 7-under 64 of the season in the second round. Vinijchaitham finished at par-or-better in all four rounds of the NCAA Championships to tie for ninth overall before earning a win in her match in the NCAA quarterfinals. Tsuru finished her sophomore year with a 72.62 scoring average with 12 par-or-better rounds and nine sub-70 showings. She was dominant early in the spring with eight consecutive rounds in the 60s, including a 66-68-69 week to earn her first career win at the Juli Inkster Invitational. After battling through a back injury late in the spring, Tsuru returned to the lineup at the NCAA Championships to help Oregon return to the match play semifinals. She picked up a 3&2 victory over Northwestern's Lauren Nguyen in the semifinals.
An Looks to Build on Solid Freshman Year
Tong An was another breakout performer for the Ducks in 2024-25, earning all-Big Ten second-team honors as a true freshman. An competed in 34 of 35 rounds for the Ducks, finishing the year with a 73.48 scoring average and 12 par-or-better performances. She shot in the 60s three times, headlined by a stellar 6-under 66 in the final round of the Big Ten Championship to help Oregon run away with the team title. An provided the highlight of the season at the NCAA Championships, taking Texas' Lauren Kim to 20 holes in the match play quarterfinals before making the winning putt to send the Ducks to the semifinals. On the season, An recorded three top-10 finishes and seven top-20 showings.
Freshmen Ready to Contribute
Oregon will play a pair of true freshmen in its first tournament of 2025-26, as Sophie Han and Shyla Singh join Romero, Vinijchaitham and An in the lineup at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate. Han gives the Ducks four players in the top 100 of the World Amateur Golf Rankings at No. 98, joining Romero (1), Vinijchaitham (18) and Tsuru (49). A native of Hong Kong, China, Han joined the Ducks as one of the top international talents in the class of 2025. A member of the Hong Kong National Team, Han competed at the Women's Amateur Asia-Pacific Championship each of the last three years, headlined by a third-place showing in 2023. Singh, a left-handed golfer out of Gold Coast, Australia, was a member of the Australian National Team who collected three wins on the junior circuit since 2022. One of those wins came at the 2024 Australian Girls' Amateur, and she also competed in the 2024 USA vs. Australia Team Match. Han and Singh will look to follow in the footsteps of Romero, Vinijchaitham and An as true freshmen to make an immediate impact in Oregon's lineup.
