Ducks Complete First Day of Red-Blue Invite
02/20/26 | Women's Tennis
UO stumbled against No. 60 GCU before taking the doubles point vs. Denver.
TUCSON, Ariz. – The Oregon women's tennis team kicked off the Red-Blue Invite against No. 60 Grand Canyon and No. 61 Denver at LaNelle Robson Tennis Courts on Friday, suffering a 4-2 defeat to GCU to begin the day before taking on the Pioneers in doubles later in the afternoon.
Facing their first of three consecutive matches against ranked teams at the two-day event, the Ducks (7-2) got a positive start by winning the doubles point with wins on the top two courts. UO extended its lead to 2-0 with Bridget Mihulka's straight-set win at No. 6.
The Antelopes (5-4) evened the team score at 2-2 with straight-set victories on courts three and four, meaning the match would come down to whichever team won two of the remaining three singles matches – all of which went to a third set.
Redshirt senior Olivia Symons led her match in the third set at No. 2, but GCU hung on to earn points on courts one and five to pick up the 4-2 team victory. Tilde Jagare, playing at No. 1, overcome a 6-0 first-set setback to force a third set with a 6-1 win in the second.
Jagare and Symons helped Oregon to its early lead with a 6-4 doubles victory at the top spot in the order. The pair clinched the point after UO's No. 2 pairing of Hinata Furutani and Juliet Santitto eased to a 6-0 win.
Mihulka, a sophomore, picked up her eighth consecutive singles win to begin the spring season, improving to 8-0 at the sixth position in UO's lineup. Furutani suffered her first collegiate dual loss, as the freshman is now 4-1 at No. 5.
Later in the afternoon, Oregon completed the doubles portion of its match with Denver, this time claiming wins at Nos. 1 and 3. With their 2-0 day, Jagare and Symons improved to 7-3 at the top spot in the lineup this season. Hadley Appling and Virginia Crocker, both freshmen, pushed their dual doubles record to 6-0.
The Ducks will take a 1-0 lead into singles play on Saturday morning, where they will resume their split dual match with the Pioneers at approximately 7 a.m. PT. UO will complete the weekend with a 12:30 p.m. matchup with host Arizona on Saturday.
