CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Oregon men's tennis fell 4-0 to No. 11 Illinois Fighting Illini men's tennis on Friday at the Atkins Tennis Center.
Oregon (9-3, 0-1) opened the match with a tightly contested doubles point in which all three courts were decided by tiebreakers. The Ducks earned a win at No. 1 doubles as Matthew Burton and Pierre Mouesca defeated Tyler Bowers and Gabriel Debru 7-6 (7-0). Illinois, however, secured the point with victories at No. 3 and No. 2 doubles, both by 7-6 margins.
In singles play, Illinois (11-3, No. 11 ITA) clinched the match with straight-set victories on courts six, three and two. Zach Viiala defeated Cameron Burton 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles to give the Illini a 2-0 lead before No. 70 Will Mroz topped Sam Olszakowski 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3. Gabriel Debru sealed the team win with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Pierre Mouesca at No. 2 singles.
Three other singles matches went unfinished. Vlad Breazu led No. 23 Kenta Miyoshi 6-4, 5-4 at No. 1 singles, while Matthew Burton and Lachlan Robertson were also in progress when the match concluded.
