ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, Calif. – The No. 3 ranked Oregon women's golf team is in fourth place at the Game Above Sports Invitational after shooting 10-over par across 36 holes on Monday at Rolling Hills Country Club.
Junior Darae Chung and freshman Sophie Han both fired 3-under 69s in the opening round to lead the Ducks to an even-par 288. Oregon entered round two in fourth place despite playing without junior Kiara Romero - the top-ranked amateur in the world - who missed round one due to illness.
Romero returned in round two and led the Ducks with an even-par 72. Oregon shot 10 over as a team in the second round and will enter Tuesday's final round trailing No. 2 USC (-13), No. 4 Texas A&M (+1) and Eastern Michigan (+9) on the leaderboard. The Ducks are two strokes ahead of SMU (+12) for fifth place in the 11-team field.
Chung is the top Duck on the leaderboard in a tie for eighth place at 1-over par. USC's Kylie Chong leads the field at 7 under.
How it Happened: With Romero out for the opening round, all four of Oregon's remaining players counted to the team score. Chung and Han stepped up and each shot 3-under par, tied for the second-best individual score of the opening round.
Chung and Han had very similar opening rounds, each making four birdies and just one bogey. Chung answered her lone bogey at No. 13 by shooting 2 under the rest of the round, while Han made three consecutive birdies to get to 4 under before making her only bogey at No. 17.
Sophomore Tong An closed round one with a 2-over 74 and freshman Shyla Singh rounded out the counting scores with a 4-over 76. An was even on the back nine in the opening round, while Singh was 1 over across her final nine holes.
